Shabwah – Special Report
As part of the Project to Increase Access to Education and Improve Its Quality in Lawdar District of Abyan Governorate and Bayhan District of Shabwah Governorate, eight new classrooms have been inaugurated in Bayhan District, funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund and implemented by Mayar Foundation for Development. This project falls within the efforts to enhance education and provide a suitable learning environment for students in affected areas. Bayhan is a rural area in Yemen that suffers due to its proximity to ongoing military conflict, which has led to an influx of displaced and affected students.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several local officials and representatives from Mayar Foundation for Development, headed by the Foundation’s President, Mr. Ayman Al-Ahdal, as well as parents and members of the local community. They emphasized the importance of this project in strengthening education in the region, especially under the difficult conditions facing the country.
The Director of the Education Office in the district stated that the opening of these classrooms will help accommodate more students and ease the pressure on existing schools, thereby enhancing educational opportunities for all. He also expressed his gratitude to the Yemen Humanitarian Fund and Mayar Foundation for Development for their continuous support.
For his part, Mr. Ayman Al-Ahdal, President of Mayar Foundation for Development, affirmed that this project reflects the foundation’s commitment to improving the lives of communities affected by conflict. He stressed that education is one of the foundation’s top priorities to secure a better future for the next generation. Mayar Foundation aims to implement more educational projects in the future to help build a strong and educated society.
In addition to the construction of 8 classrooms — two in each of the following schools: Al-Ghaydh, Ubayyah, Al-Noor, and Juradan — the project included teacher training and capacity-building, monthly incentives for volunteer teachers, the distribution of school bags to students, and health awareness sessions.
